The Black-necked Stilt is a research in contrasts. Its shiny black wings and again oppose the white breast, and each are accentuated by lengthy, brilliant pink legs. Undisturbed, stilts wade by way of shallow wetlands and flooded fields with a cautious grace. When disturbed in the course of the breeding season, nonetheless, all semblance of grace disappears. My private “Lifer” Black-necked Stilt goes approach again to my first birding subject journey for my faculty Ornithology class to the San Luis NWR in Merced County in 1985. Outdoors of the US, I’ve seen them in Mexico (Cozumel Island) and in Belize, Guatemala and in Costa Rica alongside the Tárcoles River.
